Kate Reed (Sarah Shani) has had enough with being a lawyer. She works at her father’s law firm in San Francisco. Her ex is a lawyer. He used to be an ex as well but with their on-off relation she’s not so sure about that one. Her step-mother, who’s also a couple of years older than her, is – you’ve guesses it – a lawyer. And it seems to her that everyone is against her. It so happens that her father dies and she is left on her own, dealing with a step-mother as her boss. She doesn’t like her, the judges don’t seem to like her either…. Maybe being an attorney is proving not to be her thing. So what does energetic and optimist Kate do? She becomes a mediator. And it works like a charm.
Now, all that she has to figure out is how to adjust to the changes in her life, starting with her new boss (and step mother) Laura – played by Virginia Williams. Their relationship is a rollercoaster. They don’t really like each other but Kate can’t understand why the woman has to be so cold and harsh all the time with her. Nevertheless there is a fiery chemistry between them and, by learning bit by bit about each other they start slowly to fit into the family.
And the humorous interaction with other characters doesn’t stop here. The show has quite some wits to show; it’s sarcastic, comic and refreshing in the line of law comedy TV series.
