Dorset is a beautiful, charming and friendly little seaside town in England and everything seems to be perfect here. The discovering of Danny’s body on a near beach is going to throw the quite little town in chaos as the murder and the following investigation creates a chain reaction that threatens to tear this town apart. Well kept secrets are unwrapped while the investigation proceeds.
David Tennant is Detective Inspector Alec Hardy, a hardened, efficient, and blunt outsider with a reputation for failure. He is sent here to solve the murder of the eleven year old boy together with Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman), a strong and compassionate detective who’s methods are not always to the liking of the by-the-book Detective Inspector. Solving the case is not the only thing the two detectives have to do however. They are also burden with keeping the media from derailing the investigation and preventing the crime from impacting tourism at the beach where the boy was murdered.
The story may be somewhat depressing but the depth of the characters and the well-constructed plot makes it hard not to watch the series in one sitting. The series also leaves some subtle clues throughout the later episodes, thus allowing viewers to indulge in guessing the killer.
The cast is spectacular, one being actually able to feel the grief and suspicion coming from their character and that is a treat seeing how almost all the actors in season one took the part understanding that they might be Danny’s killer.
If you like British crime-drama Broadchurch is the series for you.
