Adam Reed, the man behind Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo, didn’t let the grass grow under his feet and penciled a fresh animated sitcom. The series follows the adventures of Sterling Malory Archer (H. Jon Benjamin, Sex and the City, Family Guy), codename: Duchess, the world’s most dangerous secret agent. When it comes to martial arts, driving or manual exercise, he has no rival. However, his only real interest in the job is the opportunity to live high on the hog. Suave but extremely egotistical, he takes after his mother.
The head of ISIS (the International Secret Intelligence Service), Malory Archer (Jessica Walter, Arrested Development, 90210) is a domineering, self-involved alcoholic who uses the agency’s resources to her own personal advantage. The top female agent at ISIS and Archer’s ex-girlfriend, Lana Kane (Aisha Tyler, 24, Ghost Whisperer) is a looker. Still, she is constantly frustrated that she is cast into the shade because Archer’s mother runs the agency.
There’s a little army at their heels. An openly gay intelligence analyst and one of the few competent members of ISIS, Ray Gillette (Adam Reed) shares a great friendship with Lana. ISIS’s human resources director and a gossipy pot smoker, Pam Poovey (Amber Nash) is often a target for ridicule because of her weight. Although she isn’t a field agent, Pam is an excellent driver and fighter. Ray, along with Pam, serves as the voice of reason on the show. The comptroller of ISIS, Cyril Figgis (Chris Parnell, Eureka, Suburgatory) is quite competent at his job, but is troubled by many personal problems. He’s eventually promoted to secret agent, but is out of his bearings. Malory’s secretary, Cheryl Tunt (Judy Greer, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men) is a clingy and emotionally fragile person with pyromaniac and sadomasochistic tendencies. She also happens to be the heiress to a railroad fortune. The head of the ISIS applied research department, Doctor Algernop Krieger (Lucky Yates) shares blood ties to Adolf Hitler being one of the “Boys from Brazil”. He’s by far the most interesting member of the team.
No matter whether he annoys or seduces everyone that crosses his path, at the end of the day, Archer always manages to thwart the crises that threaten mankind.
